      Van Williamson Trio

The members of the Van Williamson Trio have been performing together as a group (with some personnel changes) for 20 years in the Washington, D.C., Annapolis and Delmarva Peninsula regions, although each musician has been playing for several decades. The Trio's repertoire focuses primarily on music from "The Great American Songbook" by composers including Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Vernon Duke, et al, and by jazz greats Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and many others. The group also plays bossa nova music by Brazilian composers like Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa, and contemporary music from stage and screen.
Guitarist Van Williamson was for many years the director of NPR's Morning Edition. As a radio producer, he created the long-running music-variety program Radio from Downtown at the Avalon Theatre in Easton, MD. As a musician, he has been performing at a wide variety of venues in the area, including the Rehoboth Jazz Festival (since the event's second year) and the Rehoboth Art League (since 2000). He has worked as a solo guitarist, in a duo with bassist Tom Anthony (for 20 years), or in the trio with various drummers. He has also performed with the Delmarva Big Band, the Queen Anne's Chorale, the Bay Jazz Project, the Joe Baione Trio and other small groups around the region.
Bassist Tom Anthony is a mainstay of the Eastern Shore jazz and classical music scenes. He is first call bassist for DC area musicians such as Chuck and Robert Redd and Steve Abshire as well as touring musicians like Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski and Frank Vignola. He is a long-time member of the popular group Chesapeake Scenes with Tom McHugh. He has been teaching classical guitar, lute and acoustic and electric bass at Washington College in Chestertown, MD, for over 20 years.
The newest member of the trio, Wes Crawford ( currently teaches drumset privately and at Goucher College in Baltimore, MD. He has performed and/or recorded in a variety of popular styles with many artists throughout the Washington, DC/Baltimore region and beyond, including award-winning song stylist Jane L. Powell, saxophonist Ron Holloway, singing legend Eva Cassidy, the Bay Jazz Project, and the David Bach Consort. Wes served as Vice-President and President of the MD/DE chapter of the Percussive Arts Society from 2005-2014 and he is an Artist Associate with Dream Cymbals, Baltimore Drum Company, Vic Firth Sticks, and ProLogix Percussion. Wes also created and directs the Drumset and Percussion Camp of the Goucher Summer Arts Institute.

The musicians have performed at a wide variety of clubs and theaters in the area, including the Avalon Theatre in Easton, MD; the Rehoboth Art League; the St. Michaels Wine Fest; the National Harbor in Prince George's County; the Mainstay in Rock Hall, MD; the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College; the Globe Theater; the Plein Air Festival in Easton; 49 West in Annapolis; the Hyatt Hotel in Cambridge, MD; Sunfest in Ocean City, MD; the Rehoboth Jazz Festival; Twins Lounge and the Henley Park Hotel in DC; and for various functions at NPR.
